A passage that we as an elder board are trying to apply daily is Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all your hearts, leaning not in your own understanding, but in all your ways acknowledge Him, and he will make straight your paths.”
We have seven things that we would like to update our church family on:
- 2018 Audit
The 2018 audit has been completed and published. You can read it here. Thank you for your patience. The Elders have now tasked the newly assembled Audit Committee which consists of the non-staff Finance Committee members, to provide oversight for the engagement of the church audit for 2019. The first step in the process will be to prepare a request for proposal to public accounting firms in order to select the auditors for 2019 and commence the audit. We expect the selection of the auditor to be determined soon and the audit to be completed by the end of summer.
- Growing Elder Board
The elder board is growing so we can better care for the people at Harvest. The goal is to have two non-staff elders from each campus. That would give us a total of twelve non-staff elders on the elder board. With two campus pastors (Pastor Ed Ollie, Chicago Cathedral and Dr. Mike Vanlaningham, Deerfield Road), along with Lead Ministry Pastor Greg Bradshaw, that gives us a total of fifteen elders. Once we hire our Lead Teaching Pastor, he would be the sixteenth member of our elder board. We’re looking to announce the additional non-staff elders by the beginning of March and officially welcome them on the board by end of March.
- Lead Teaching Pastor Update
We have researched various recruiting firms who could help us find our Lead Teaching Pastor and have decided to partner with Vanderbloemen to help in this search. We invite you to join us in praying for the Lord to bring us this individual (whether an internal candidate or an external candidate) as we begin this search. We trust His plans and His timing.
- Arbitration Status
Harvest Bible Chapel is still in arbitration. We ask for you to join us in prayer that the Lord would have His way in this process. Also pray for the Arbitration Panel, the Christian attorney, and our leadership, as they have a lot of work to do. Pray that the Holy Spirit would guide them through the process and to an ultimate resolution between Harvest Bible Chapel and James MacDonald.
- CityLine Bible Church (former Niles Campus)
We want to share that the sale of the Niles Campus to Cityline Bible Church becomes final today, Friday, February 28, 2020! We are so excited to see what the Lord will do through CityLine in and around the surrounding community for many years to come.
- Priority of Debt Reduction
We, as Elders, along with staff leaders have been in prayer about opportunities to lower our debt liability and are looking at various ways to steward our resources and building assets. This is a priority over the next couple of years as we look at any doors the Lord might open. We are looking at all possibilities that would have the most positive impact on our mission in the years ahead. We ask that you would join us in prayer for these efforts.
- Harvest Christian Academy (HCA) as an Employer
We want to recognize our school at Harvest. HCA recently earned a “Best Christian Workplaces” award. In December, the HCA staff took the Best Christian Workplaces Institute (BCWI) survey, conducted by BCWI, and scored a 4.21 (out of 5), earning the certification from BCWI.
This survey is a 55-question anonymous survey including three open-ended questions ranging from all kinds of questions about staff culture including leadership, benefits, work environment, teams, missions, and more. The score (4.21) is higher than any previous year’s scores at the church or school. This is an amazing accomplishment and we as the elder board want to recognize the HCA leadership, faculty, and staff for achieving this award.
“And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.” Galatians 6:9
In closing, we thank the Lord for his goodness and favor towards His church and His school. We will look forward to seeing what the Lord is going to do in all of us and through His church in 2020.
